China Chengdu and Daegu Korea Become Twin Cities

Chengdu city in Sichuan province decided on June 29 to twin with South Korean city of Daegu. It is Chengdu’s 27th twin city. The two cities will sign the partnership agreement this year with a view to further enhance their cooperation in trade, tourism, education and culture, according to Chengdu foreign and overseas Chinese affairs office.

Daegu occupies an area of 855 square kilometers and has 2.5 million residents. It holds an important position as the business and logistics center in southern part of South Korea and is strong in fiber textile and machine manufacturing industries.

Daegu’s rich educational resources also contribute to its fast development. There are more than 70 educational institutions in the city, including 34 research institutes. The city is also known as the “home of Presidents” since four Presidents in the country’s history came from Daegu.

The two cities have been fostering bilateral relations since 2013. Over the past two years, various cooperation projects and activities were organized, such as educational exchange programs and Sino-Korean trade fairs. It is such successful cooperation mode that drove the two closer to become twin
