First Temple Built by Guge Kingdom in Ngari Tibet

Toling Monastery, meaning flying monastery in Tibetan, is the first Buddhist temple built by Tibet's Guge Kingdom in western Ngari Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region.

With a history of 1,014 years, it stands at the ruins of the monastery. Standing in front of it, we could still imagine how grand and glorious the monastery once was.

There are 83 stupas of different sizes and two walls around the monastery. Inside the stupas are centuried-old cultural relics, including molded clay figures such as Buddha, Bodhisattvas, clay towers and and so forth.

Toling Temple is a fusion of Indian, Nepalese and Tibetan architectural styles and was built through research of local architecture, sculptures, paintings and other precious materials.
