Wuhou Memorial Temple

Located in Chengdu City in China's Sichuan Province, the Temple of Marquis Wu is dedicated to two Liu Bei, an Emperor of the Shu Kingdom and Zhuge Liang, Prime Minister of the Shu Kingdom. It is the only temple in China that memorializes both an Emperor and his Prime Minister.

Construction on the temple began in 223 AD, during the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280), with the construction of Liu Bei's mausoleum. The temple complex occupies an area of 14 hectares and encompasses the Hui Mausoleum, the Zhaolie Temple, the Wuhou Temple and the Sanyi Temple. The temple has been a famous tourist site for over 1,000 years and has inspired poets and artists for almost as long.

The temple buildings have been rebuilt several times during their history with the existing buildings being built in the Ming (1368-1644) and early Qing Dynasties (1644-1911). The temple complex faces the south and is built along a central axis. The historical and peaceful atmosphere making it a great stop on China tours.
