Tibet Wins Two Awards in Beijing Int'l Tourism Expo

The Tibetan delegation won the "Best Booth" and "Best Organisation" awards at the 12th Beijing International Tourism Expo just closed recently, Tibet daily reported.

The Tibetan delegation was composed of 35 representatives from tourism bureaus of seven cities and prefectures, travel agencies and hotels.

Tsering Drolma, deputy director of the Autonomous Region Tourism Development Committee, said that the Tibetan Pavilion, themed as "Heaven on earth in Tibet", became a major highlight of this year’s travel expo, owing to the use of traditional Tibetan elements.

The tourism bureaus of seven cities and prefectures issued a large amount of tourist information to visitors to promote the region’s unique tourism resources and folk culture. Some travel agencies and hotels offered promotional discounts, received in-person or telephone counselling and signed contracts on the spot.

In addition, the Autonomous Region Tourism Development Committee launched the "Winter tour to Tibet; Enjoy the sunshine" low-season tourism advertisement to help visitors to find a new experience.

The Tibetan delegation also used new-media platforms such as WeChat and Weibo to promote Tibetan tours and products.

During the three-day exhibition, the Tibetan delegation issued a total of 20,000 copies of information booklets, welcomed about 50,000 visitors, and signed more than 200 agreements of intent.

The 12th Beijing International Tourism Expo, which began on Jun. 26 which attracted delegations from 81 countries and regions, 30 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions included), and 987 travel agencies and tourism enterprises.
