Chengdu New Airport Is Officially Named as Chengdu Tianfu International Airport

The name of the new airport of Chengdu has been officially settled. On October 9th, reporters learned from relevant civil aviation administration that Civil Aviation Administration of China had replied to the name records and approved to name Chengdu new airport as “Chengdu Tianfu International Airport” (Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in English). Since then, all the relevant files, documents, drawings and other publications could comply with this name.

Located at Lujia Town, Jianyang city, Tianfu New District, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is about 50 kilometers away from the central town of Chengdu. As national level international aviation hub, the airport for the first phrase is designed to meet 40 million passenger throughput in 2025, annual cargo throughput of 700,000 tons, and taking-off and landing aircraft of 320,000 with 3 runways. In the long term, the airport will meet the needs of 90 million passenger throughput and annual cargo throughput of 2 million tons with 6 runways and 4 terminals, twice as large of the current two terminals of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. After the completion of this new airport, Chengdu will become the third city in China to be equipped with two airports after Beijing and Shanghai.

Currently, the official feasibility study concerning Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is still under approval. Relevant departments are preparing in accordance with the target of initiating construction in the end of 2015. Facilities such as Construction Guidance Department Office have been constructed recently.
