US State Senate Delegation Visited Sichuan to Build Solid Friendship with Sichuan

On November 10th to 12th, US delegation of 10 state senate leaders from Utah, South Dakota, Colorado, Nevada and so on visited Sichuan. On November 11th, Sichuan-US Exchange and Cooperation Seminar was held in Chengdu. US state senate delegates and officials from relevant provincial and municipal departments exchanged opinions face to face and discussed cooperation opportunities. Mr. Wang Ning, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, Managing Vice Governor of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, in Chegndu, and Mr. Chen Guangzhi, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, attended the seminar and delivered a speech respectively.

  Recent years has witnessed the increasingly close exchanges between Sichuan and US. There are frequent high-level officials, increasing trade investment, and active exchanges between sister cities. By now, Sichuan Province and her cities have established 25 pairs of sister cities and friendship cooperation relationship with American cities. The visiting state senate delegates are from multiple states. They would not only inspect the economic and social development situation of Sichuan but also hope to conduct in-depth exchanges with Sichuan in all fields. “There is an old saying in America, namely first to understand others and then let others understand you.” Mr. Bramble from Utah State Senate said. The visit aimed to provide more opportunities for senate leaders to have a better understanding of Sichuan, promote the USA states to establish solid friendship with Sichuan, and lay foundation for further exchange and cooperation.

  On the seminar, when knowing that Sichuan had established friendship cooperation relationship with Washington, Michigan, and California, Ms. Peters, Vice President of National Conference of State Legislature and Co-President of South Dakota Senate Appropriation Committee, indicated that she was quite encouraged. She introduced the advantages of South Dakota in biological energy research and development and proposed to strengthen cooperation with Sichuan in new energy. Mr. Bebout, Majority Leader of Wyoming Senate said that Wyoming State had the most abundant coal resources in US and energy industry was the pillar industry for Wyoming. She heard that Sichuan had plentiful shale gas and hoped to take good use of the hi-tech advantages of Wyoming in order to extend cooperation in the exploitation of shale gas with Sichuan. Mr. Kennedy from Rhode Senate indicated that he had opened horizons through this trip and he would suggest the Governor of Rhode Island and strive to establish sister provinces between Sichuan and Rhode Island.
