According to the Tourism Development Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region, Lhasa and Nyingchi are now part of a national tourism demo region.

Starting in 2016, the tourism agencies in Tibet will upgrade travel infrastructure, create a total landscape for the region, as well as provide personalized tours.

The magical Potala Palace, historical Barkor Street, serene Lhasa River… As the capital of Tibet, Lhasa has a rich history with diverse culture, making it an essential destination for domestic and international tourists. Nyingchi, often called "oriental Switzerland", offers primordial forests, glaciers, and waterfalls, and is another important part of ecological tourism in Tibet.　

Karma Tseten, deputy director of the Tibet Tourism Development Committee, explained that Lhasa and Nyingchi will run test sites with travel agency approvals this year while growing new consumer hot spots. Tourism products featuring countryside-, cultural-, and RV-tours will be cultivated.　　

In addition, Tibet will speed up its growth of basic tourism infrastructure and travel relief facilities, with the development of “tourism + internet,” “tourism + cultural development,” and “tourism + athletic industry” in order to offer personalized tours and meet the needs of all types of tourists.

Metok County of Nyingchi, nicknamed “Secret Realm of the Lotus,” will start to provide customized tours. There will be a limit for the number of tourists so as to offer high-quality and unique tours.
