Bamboo Woven Articles Popular on Chengdu Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival

"Do you sell this ink painting?" A customer asked in front of a "painting" on the second floor of Sichuan Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center on June 18. Chen Yunhua, an inheritor of bamboo woven articles of Qingzhu County, said, smiling, "This is not an ink painting. It is a bamboo woven article."

  Bamboo handcrafts are presented with the effect of traditional ink painting, which win wide praise of audience. On Chengdu Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival, fine bamboo woven articles from Qingshen, Meishan, such as "Eight Horses", "White Tiger", "River of Wisdom", and so on, attract many audience. While many audiences thought that these bamboo woven articles were ink paintings.

  Chen Yunhua immediately conducted a live demonstration of how to weaving bamboo. A number of bamboo filaments as thin as hair came back and forth in his hand. The audiences were all surprised. Mr. Chen introduced, "It needs thousands of bamboo filaments to weave a painting. A tiny mistake could ruin the whole painting." He said that only a special kind of bamboo living in the east coast of Minjiang River could be used to weave Qingshen bamboo articles. There are more than 10 progresses to complete an article, such as sawing, scraping, staining, splitting and weaving. "We local farmers, making a living by weaving bamboo, have our own new houses, cars, and a more prosperous life."
